Dirt Devil is one of the most recognized vacuum
cleaner brand names in the world. It has a long, storied history that
builds the foundation of values it still holds true to today. Dirt Devil
was founded in 1905 under the name P.A. Geier Company. This means it is
one of the world's oldest vacuum cleaner manufacturing companies. From
its backyard garage in Cleveland, Ohio, Geier produced metal cleaners.
In 1937, the vacuum cleaner industry's first hand-held vacuum was
introduced. It was called the "Royal Prince."
In 1953, the P.A. Geier Company was bought by an
investment group called the Walter E. Schott Organization. The company
changed its name to Royal Appliance Manufacturing. This didn't last long
because shortly after that in 1954, Royal Appliance Manufacturing was
purchased by a group of employees that were led by Stan Erbor.
In 1955, the first household vacuum with the
patented Cyclone system was built. The Cyclone technology makes your
cleaning experience more thorough by increasing the suction of your
vacuum cleaner. In 1969, the headquarters moved from Cleveland to
Highland Heights, Ohio. Under the leadership of Stan Erbor, the company
was thriving. He remained active in the company until he passed away in
1981.
After Erbor passed away, a small group of investors
purchased the Royal Appliance Manufacturing Company and implemented
fresh sales and marketing strategy. Dirt Devil started selling a mass
market line with plastic cases. In 1984, the Dirt Devil Hand Vac was
introduced. It soon became the largest selling handheld vacuum in the
United States. It sold more than twenty-five million. It still remains
Royal's signature product.
Even though Dirt Devil's signature product is the
Hand Vac, the company also manufactures upright vacuum cleaners, other
handheld vacuum cleaners, stick vacuum cleaners, canister vacuum
cleaners and carpet shampooers. In 1996, a newer model of the Dirt Devil
Hand Vac was introduced called the Ultra Hand Vac. The Broom Vac was
also introduced. It went on to become the best selling stick vacuum
cleaner in the United States. The newest Broom Vac has nine color
options, a longer battery life and more suction, like the
Dirt Devil BV2030
Broom Vac in White. In 2005, Dirt Devil
went back to its best selling roots and introduced the Dirt Devil
Classic Hand Vac. This handheld vacuum cleaner was an update of the
original Hand Vac.
In 2003, TTI Floor Care North America purchased the
Royal Appliance Manufacturing Company. TTI stands for TechTronic
Industries. This is a Hong Kong based firm that also owns other vacuum
cleaner manufacturers.
The mission of Dirt Devil is to be a foremost
consumer products company. They strive to discover precisely what the
customer needs and solve all cleaning dilemmas with quality products.
This philosophy of strong customer service partnered with quality
products have enabled Dirt Devil to construct a solid brand loyalty and
foster a strong sense of consumer satisfaction. The Dirt Devil name has
98% brand awareness throughout the world. People have come to know it as
the company to turn to when in need of a first class handheld vacuum
cleaner. When it comes to spills in hard to reach areas, "Nothing
escapes the power of a Dirt Devil."
